The website of the French publication "Le Nouvel Observateur" (L'OBS) announced in an investigation: "The French company Total has been involved in the pollution in extensive operations in Yemen by burying thousands of tons of toxic substances in the waters of Yemen near its place of operation."
The Total company, which has been operating in an oil field in eastern Yemen for about 20 years, is responsible for a series of pollutions that affect the environment and the health of thousands of Yemenis.
According to investigations, Total has polluted rivers, underground water and agricultural lands and caused the spread of dangerous diseases among local residents. Total did not report the chemical spill and thus violated the environmental laws in Yemen.
The producer of this research announced that he had a field trip to Yemen, studied dozens of documents and met with Yemeni officials.
This investigation reported the burial of millions of liters of toxic water, oil spills, non-standard operating techniques, polluting the country's largest groundwater and non-recycling of toxic waste.
The producer of this research stated: "Death there affects the land, animals and people as a result of chemical spills, air pollution and the impact of surrounding areas."
He emphasized: "These measures have led to a significant increase in the number of cancer in the region, the disappearance of bees and birds, and the pollution of agricultural land, which turned into a deserted place after the production of many agricultural products."
He considered what happened to be the biggest environmental scandal in the history of Yemen and said: "The facilities built by this company do not comply with the international standards in force."
