In response to recent attacks by the Houthi group in Yemen, oil giant BP announced on Monday a temporary suspension of all transits through the Red Sea. The decision, attributed to the deteriorating security situation for shipping in the region, was communicated through a company statement.
BP emphasized that the precautionary pause would undergo continuous review, with adjustments made based on evolving circumstances in the area.
The Red Sea, recognized as the world's most utilized sea route for oil and fuel shipments, has witnessed a notable shift in shipping dynamics. Major shipping firms are diverting from Red Sea routes due to the increasing threat posed by attacks orchestrated by the Houthi group.
In November, Yahya Seri, the military spokesman for the Houthis, declared the group's intention to target any Israeli-flagged ship in response to Israel's war crimes in the blockaded Gaza Strip.
