“Game of Thrones” fans everywhere are rejoicing. On Thursday, HBO dropped the official trailer and nine character posters for spinoff series “House of the Dragon.”
The series, which is based on George R.R. Martin’s novel “Fire & Blood,” is a prequel to “Game of Thrones.” Set 200 years prior to the original show, the new series details the rise and fall of House Targaryen. It will focus on familiar faces like King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine) and Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy), the named heir of the king.
According to Variety, HBO spent $20 million on each of the 10 episodes in the show’s first season, which premieres Aug 21. “Game of Thrones,” by comparison, racked up about $100 million in costs each season.
