Germany’s foreign minister has tested positive for COVID-19 and cut her Pakistan visit short, the ministry said Tuesday.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Christofer Burger said the result of the rapid antigen test Annalena Baerbock took was positive and she canceled her planned appointments, according to the German news agency DPA.
After noticing that she lost her sense of taste during lunch, Baerbock took the test, said Burger.
A Baerbock family member, that the top diplomat had a little contact with, tested positive for COVID-19 during the weekend, he added.
Burger noted that the foreign minister has regularly been tested and that she had even tested negative on Tuesday morning.
She was also set to visit Türkiye and Greece this week.
