The only cancer hospital in Gaza, the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital, has suffered significant damage due to Israeli airstrikes, according to an announcement by the Health Ministry of the enclave on Monday. The continuous heavy bombardment by Israel has instilled a sense of fear and panic among the cancer patients and the medical staff at the hospital. Dr. Subhi Skaik, the hospital’s director general, expressed his concern on Facebook about the repeated targeting of the hospital’s surroundings by Israeli forces.
Dr. Skaik highlighted that these actions by the Israeli forces have not only escalated the suffering and pain of cancer patients but also deprived them of essential medications and opportunities for treatment abroad. Now, their lives are further endangered due to the targeting of the hospital’s surroundings.
The construction of this hospital, which is the largest in Palestine with an area of 34,800 square meters and a capacity of 180 beds, was funded by the Turkish government from 2011-2017.
