The Israeli military has conducted a series of intense bombings on the Gaza Strip, resulting in the release of 18,000 tons of explosives since October 7th. This staggering amount of explosives is equivalent to approximately 1.5 times the destructive force of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima, Japan during World War II. These revelations were made by officials within the besieged enclave.
Salama Marouf, the head of the government's media office, addressed the media to share concerning details about the situation. He stated that Israeli forces have targeted and destroyed 85 government buildings in Gaza. Moreover, he noted that 47 mosques have been demolished, and three churches have suffered significant damage due to these attacks. The overall impact has left over 200,000 buildings damaged, with 32,500 of them no longer suitable for habitation. In addition, 203 schools have sustained severe damage, and 45 schools are now entirely non-operational. Marouf emphasized that the extent of the destruction is so severe that comprehensive statistics are still being compiled.
These actions are in clear violation of the Geneva Convention, which strictly prohibits attacks on houses of worship, schools, and other civilian structures. Israel has claimed that militants are using these buildings as shelters, justifying their attacks. Marouf, however, asserted, "The Israeli army has caused the death of thousands by massacring 908 families."
The report also highlights the tragic loss of life among essential professionals in the region. A total of 35 journalists, 124 healthcare workers, and 18 civil defense personnel from emergency rescue teams have lost their lives as a result of these attacks. This dire situation continues to raise concerns about human rights and international law violations within the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
