As the conflict in Gaza continues into its 92nd day, pro-Palestinian demonstrations in the UK have gained momentum, with calls for an immediate and lasting cease-fire in the blockaded strip. The protesters, undeterred by the passage of time, are mobilizing across various cities, including Birmingham, Bristol, Brighton, Canterbury, Oxford, and Hastings.
Local marches in London, such as those in Camden, Hackney, Harrow, and Ealing, are also scheduled. The Camden protest notably featured a rally outside the office of Labour leader Keir Starmer, who has faced criticism for not advocating for a cease-fire in Gaza despite the increasing death toll.
During the Camden protest, anti-Israel slogans were chanted, and participants carried Palestinian flags and signs conveying messages like "Stop bombing Gaza," "You should be ashamed," "From river to sea Palestine will be free," "Freedom for Palestine," "End Genocide," and "Cease-fire now."
The Palestine Solidarity Campaign emphasized the urgency of demanding a cease-fire and ending British complicity in Israel's actions. Speakers at the protests, including Sabby Sagall and Andrew Murray, highlighted Israel's intensified attacks on Gaza, with Murray condemning the political support for what he termed as Israeli "genocide."
Retired doctor Jonathan Flaxman provided insights into the dire situation in the health sector in Gaza and Palestine, citing deliberate attacks on hospitals as part of ethnic cleansing efforts. The Organise Corbyn Inspired Socialist Alliance expressed outrage at Starmer's lack of support for a cease-fire and announced efforts to field an independent candidate against him in the next election.
In Berlin, Germany, a solidarity demonstration with Palestine gathered around 1,500 protesters who marched through the city center, condemning Israel's actions and expressing support for Palestine. Chants and banners conveyed messages such as "Israel is a terror state," "Killing children is a crime," and "Stop the war."
