Iran and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) released separate statements on Thursday, denouncing Israel's attack on civilians queuing for humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip, resulting in numerous casualties.
Iran's foreign ministry spokesperson, Nasser Kanaani, condemned the incident, stating, "Over 100 Palestinian civilians waiting in line for humanitarian aid on Al-Rashid Street in Gaza were killed, with over 800 others injured in the barbaric attack by the Zionist Regime."
Kanaani emphasized, "The suffering of Gaza will remain etched in the memory of the world, and the disgrace of supporting or remaining silent towards the mass killings and genocide of Palestinians by the criminal Zionist regime will be evident on the conscience of those falsely championing #HumanRights in the #UnitedStates and #Europe."
The OIC, in its statement, vehemently condemned Israel's "continued massacres and war crimes," particularly the recent heinous attack on Palestinian civilians awaiting aid near Al-Rashid Street in Gaza City. The organization lamented the loss of lives and injuries inflicted on hundreds.
Furthermore, the OIC urged the global community to take urgent action to halt Israel's "genocidal acts," ensure the international protection of Palestinian civilians, and guarantee the prompt delivery of essential supplies and continuous humanitarian aid.
Additionally, Al-Azhar University in Egypt condemned Israel's targeting of Palestinians gathering for aid in Gaza, describing it as a "blight on humanity" in a written statement. The university urged the international community to awaken from its historical slumber and intervene to stop Israel's attacks on Gaza.
Early Thursday, Israeli forces fired upon a crowd of Palestinians awaiting humanitarian aid south of Gaza City at the "al-Nabulsi Roundabout" area, resulting in the deaths of at least 112 Palestinians and the injury of 760 others, according to the Gaza-based Health Ministry.
Since an October 7, 2023, Hamas attack, Israel has launched a deadly military offensive on the Gaza Strip, claiming the lives of at least 30,035 Palestinians and injuring 70,457 others. This offensive has caused widespread destruction and shortages of essential supplies.
Israel's blockade on the Gaza Strip has exacerbated the situation, pushing 85% of Gaza's population into internal displacement due to severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine. Sixty percent of the enclave's infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed, as reported by the UN.
Israel faces accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice. In an interim ruling in January, the court ordered Tel Aviv to cease genocidal acts and take measures to ensure the provision of humanitarian assistance to Gaza's civilians.
