The plight of women and girls in conflict-ridden areas was a focal point of discussion during a side event organized by Turkey at a United Nations meeting of the Commission on the Status of Women.
Titled "Revealing the Untold: The Devastating Impact of Conflict on Women and Girls," the event took place at the UN headquarters in New York, spearheaded by Turkey's Ministry of Family and Social Services and hosted by its head, Mahinur Ozdemir Goktas.
"Amidst wars and conflicts, it is imperative to amplify the voices of women," asserted Palestinian Minister of Women's Affairs, Amal Hamad, shedding light on the casualties among women and children resulting from Israel's assaults on the Gaza Strip.
Addressing a panel discussion moderated by Anadolu's UN correspondent Serife Cetin, Hamad lamented the harrowing reality endured by women in Gaza, encompassing the loss of loved ones, shattered aspirations, deprivation of healthcare and education, starvation, and relentless displacement.
Expressing disillusionment with the UN's failure to halt the genocide in Gaza, Hamad underscored the erosion of trust in the organization.
Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, Qatari Minister of Social Development and Family, underscored the plight of physically disabled women and children in conflict zones, stressing the imperative of collaborative endeavors.
Deputy Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine, Iryna Postalovska, highlighted the psychological trauma inflicted upon women and children amidst the destruction and fatalities in conflict zones.
Joyce Msuya, Deputy Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator, underscored the pervasive violence against women in conflict-afflicted nations, lamenting their suppression and restricted participation.
