In a move that has drawn sharp warnings from international agencies and officials, Israel has closed two key crossings for aid into the Gaza Strip, effectively sealing off the area from the rest of the region.
The closure of the Kerem Shalom and Rafah crossings has choked off vital supply lines for more than 2 million Palestinian civilians, raising alarms about the impact on an already dire humanitarian crisis in the enclave.
The United Nations humanitarian office has condemned the move, stating that it could have devastating consequences for the people of Gaza.
"If fuel is not able to enter the enclave for some time, it would be a very effective way of putting the humanitarian operation in its grave," said Jens Laerke, a spokesman for the U.N. humanitarian office.
