Aston Villa confirmed Monday the appointment of Unai Emery as their new head coach.
"Unai joins from Villarreal, whom he led to Europa League success by beating Manchester United in the final in 2021 as well as the semi-finals of the Champions League last season," Aston Villa said in a statement.
Emery managed in the English Premier League during a spell with Arsenal, leading the Gunners to the 2019 Europa League final.
The Spaniard won three successive Europa League titles (2014, 2015, and 2016) with Sevilla and also helped Villarreal clinch the 2021 Europa League trophy.
The 50-year-old manager would take over next week, on Nov. 1, after his work permit formalities are completed, the English football side added.
On Thursday, Steven Gerrard was sacked after his team suffered a 3-0 loss to Fulham at Craven Cottage.
