Red Bull Racing driver Max Verstappen went down in history by registering the most wins in a Formula 1 season with his victory Sunday in the Mexican Grand Prix.
Verstappen finished with a time of 1 hour 38 minutes and 36.729 seconds in the 2022 Formula One World Championship.
The Dutch driver, who was already guaranteed this season's drivers title, won his 14th GP victory -- the most Grand Prix wins in one season.
The former record of 13 wins was jointly held by Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel.
The Dutchman also set a new driver record of 416 points for a single season, passing Lewis Hamilton's 413 points recorded in 2019.
"An incredible result. The pace of the car was very nice. We had to look after our tires!" Verstappen said about his historic victory.
He is followed by Mercedes driver Hamilton with +15.186 seconds and his teammate Sergio Perez, who was +18.097 seconds behind Verstappen.
Verstappen leads the Driver standings with 416 points. His teammate Perez is second with 280 points while Ferrari's Charles Leclerc is third with 275 points.
In the Constructor standings, Red Bull Racing tops the list with 696 points, with Ferrari placed second with 487 points and Mercedes third with 447 points.
The next race in the 2022 season calendar is the Brazilian Grand Prix, which will be held at Autodromo José Carlos Pace in Sao Paulo on Nov. 13.
