Kylian Mbappe is set to receive a startling world record signing-on fee when he joins Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer.
The France captain is expected to sign a five-year contract that would pay him a signing-on incentive of between €120 and €150 million (£103 million to £128 million / $130 million to $162 million), according to Spanish radio station COPE.
Mbappe and the Real Madrid powerhouses have reached an agreement, according to a report from Marca on Monday. However, no public announcement is expected to be made just yet, as Los Blancos may still play Paris Saint-Germain in this season's Champions League.
There seems to be a quiet end in sight for a story that has been dragging on for years. After Mbappe made it known to PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi that he intended to leave on the expiration of his contract this summer, matters have been exceptionally quiet. Real Madrid, PSG and the player's representatives are all seemingly intent on concluding the deal in the most diplomatic matter possible.
When Mbappe joins the team in the Spanish capital, it appears that his salary will decrease. However, rumors have it that he will be the highest paid player on the Madrid club thanks to a hefty signing-on fee and a portion of the image rights, which would increase his take-home pay.
The 25-year-old will undoubtedly be hoping to leave his home city of Paris on a high note and with trophies in the sights, as PSG leads Ligue 1 and has a 2-0 lead against Real Sociedad in the Champions League round of 16.
Although PSG would have like for Mbappe to stay, it appears that he will be leaving as they attempt to restructure their team and abandon the "Galacticos" strategy, which has also seen the departure of Brazil international Neymar and Argentina forward Lionel Messi since the end of the previous campaign.
Mbappe, who won the World Cup with France in 2018, is thought to be paid almost €200 million (£171 million) a year.
In addition to playing Nice in the domestic cup quarterfinals, PSG leads the second-placed Nice team in the French league by 11 points.
In the first leg of their Champions League semifinal matchup, the French champions defeated Real Sociedad 2-0 on Wednesday, with Mbappe scoring the first goal.
