The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia has criticized the opening ceremony of the Olympics organized by the French government, labeling it a significant disappointment. Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, highlighted various flaws in the Paris Olympics' opening ceremony, going as far as to express disbelief upon seeing images of the event, suggesting they looked altered or counterfeit.
Reports from the Moscow Times indicate that Zakharova deemed the ceremony "ridiculous," particularly condemning the decision to host it outdoors, leading guests to endure hours of heavy rain without cover. She went on to suggest that the hosts could have prevented attendees from getting wet by manipulating the weather or providing a canopy. The Russian Foreign Ministry representative also criticized France's public transport system breakdown on the ceremony day and pointed out the high presence of homeless individuals and rats in the streets of Paris. Furthermore, Zakharova noted errors such as inadvertently raising the Olympic flag upside down and mistakenly referencing "North Korea" instead of "South Korea" during team introductions.
Numerous individuals, notably tourists who traveled to Paris for the Olympic Games, voiced discontent with the opening ceremony, with some labeling it the worst in history. This first-ever outdoor opening ceremony was marred by rain, while disruptions in the French railway network caused chaos and distress among travelers, leading to severe transportation challenges for those attempting to reach the event venue.
