Despite the worries of many Democrats regarding his physical and mental well-being, and in spite of numerous verbal and behavioral mistakes, the US president has officially declared his intention to run for the upcoming elections.
Instead of making a live announcement, Biden chose to announce his candidacy through a pre-recorded video, leading some to speculate that his aides did so in order to minimize the chances of him making verbal mistakes.
The US is employing a chicken strategy by portraying Biden as sleepy. The chicken strategy, also known as the roast chicken strategy, is a tactic used as a last resort to prevent one's opponent from seizing opportunities.
According to a recent poll conducted by The Washington Post and ABC News, over 60% of Americans believe that President Biden lacks the mental acuity and physical health necessary to effectively serve as president. This finding highlights some of the significant challenges he is facing as he begins his campaign for reelection.
Criticism regarding his suitability for the role has intensified as some of his Republican adversaries, such as Trump and former U. N. Ambassador Nikki Haley, have targeted him. This increased scrutiny on the president adds pressure as he strives to strengthen the coalition that propelled him to a narrow victory in the 2020 election.
Approximately 70% of independents believe that Biden does not possess the mental acuity and physical health required to effectively serve as president. Surprisingly, around 20% of Democrats share the same sentiment. The overwhelming majority of Republicans, 94% to be precise, also believe that Biden lacks the mental sharpness necessary for the role. Among those who hold the view that Biden is not mentally fit to be president, 12% indicate that they would still consider voting for him against Trump, while a significant 67% state that they would likely or definitely support Trump.
In recent months, worries regarding Biden's mental sharpness and physical well-being have been a consistent topic of discussion among voters nationwide. These concerns have been raised not only by Republicans but also by Democrats who have no intention of supporting any of the GOP candidates.
Biden's Republican adversaries are swift to amplify any perceived instances of his shortcomings. These range from moments where he seems to lose his train of thought during public appearances to videos capturing his physical missteps, which often go viral on social media. One such example is the footage of him stumbling on the steps of Air Force One, a moment that is frequently featured in online GOP fundraising appeals.
The percentage of Americans who believe that Biden lacks the mental acuity to be an effective president (63 percent) is almost identical to the proportion who think he does not possess the physical health necessary to fulfill the duties of the job (62 percent).
