French Prime Minister Asserts Unwavering Support for Ukraine: "No Option Off the Table"

France maintains an unwavering commitment to supporting Ukraine, affirmed Prime Minister Gabriel Attal on Tuesday, emphasizing that no option is off the table in this endeavor. Addressing lawmakers in the National Assembly ahead of a pivotal vote on France's strategy to bolster Kyiv amid its prolonged conflict with Russia, Attal underscored President Emmanuel Macron's resolute stance.
Attal highlighted Macron's unequivocal message, emphasizing a balanced approach to reinforce support for Ukraine while avoiding confrontation with Russia and rejecting any escalation. He referenced Macron's recent comments proposing the possibility of deploying Western troops to Ukraine to counter Russian influence, a notion met with skepticism by some allies but reportedly gaining traction among a coalition of nations.
Asserting France's refusal to impose limits in dealing with Russia, Attal condemned Russian actions as imperialistic and hailed Ukraine's exceptional resilience. He stressed that Vladimir Putin's aggression not only targeted Ukraine but also posed a direct challenge to European values.
Emphasizing France's continued commitment to Ukraine, Attal pledged ongoing support and assistance as necessary. He commended the swift and unified response of the European Union and NATO in confronting Moscow's aggression and highlighted France's contributions in terms of humanitarian aid and military assistance to Ukraine.
Accusing Russia of destabilizing activities globally, including in Africa, cyberattacks, and disinformation campaigns, Attal warned of the dire consequences of a Russian victory over Ukraine. Such an outcome, he cautioned, would undermine the international rule of law, European security, and result in myriad challenges including increased migration, energy insecurity, and economic instability.
Attal concluded by urging legislators to endorse France's strategy in supporting Ukraine, emphasizing that rejection would undermine years of collective efforts by France and its allies. Abstention, he argued, would constitute an evasion of responsibility.
