Overseas sales to decline further as pro-Palestine boycotts continue: McDonald's

McDonald's, the giant US food chain, has announced that its international sales for the current quarter will decline sequentially due to widespread boycotts over the company's backing of the Israeli regime's months-long genocide against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.  

McDonald's chief financial officer Ian Borden declared on Thursday at the UBS Global Consumer and Retail Conference in New York that the company's International Developmental Licensed Markets segment's first-quarter comparable sales will be "slightly lower" than those of the previous three months.  

Due to boycott campaigns and protests against several Western brands for their support of Israel in the Gaza war, the company's fourth-quarter revenues in the division in February significantly fell short of Wall Street projections.  

McDonald’s and other international brands have been hit by the repercussions of a campaign of anger in the Arab and Western world over their support for Israel’s brutal war on the besieged territory since October last year. 

The fast food chain’s Israel franchise offered free food to Israeli occupation forces fighting in Gaza, and provided discounts to service personnel. 

McDonald’s franchisee in the occupied territories has also repeatedly donated free meals and drinks to the Israeli occupation army. 

In response, the anti-Israel Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Movement (BDS) supported including the multinational fast food chain on the list of boycott over their “complicity in the genocide and apartheid that Israel is committing against the Palestinians.” 

After the Palestinian resistance groups led by Hamas carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the usurping state in retribution for its intensified atrocities against the Palestinian people, Israel launched its deadly attack on Gaza on October 7.  

The Tel Aviv regime has killed 31,490 Palestinians and injured 73,439 others since the offensive began. 

In addition, the authority in Tel Aviv has placed a "complete siege" on the region, depriving the more than two million Palestinian residents of food, water, fuel, and electricity.
