Russian authorities reported that over 15,000 homes have been submerged in floods across the country, according to state media on Monday. The Emergency Situations Ministry disclosed to state news agency TASS that floods have affected 193 settlements in 33 regions, with the number of submerged houses reaching 15,641 and more than 4,000 gardens also impacted.
In the Kurgan Municipality, floodwaters are encroaching on the city, prompting urgent evacuation calls. Meanwhile, in the Tyumen region, evacuations have commenced in eight settlements following a state of emergency declaration due to imminent flooding. Tyumen Region Governor Aleksandr Moor warned of the Ishim River's water level potentially reaching 10 meters.
Further exacerbating the situation, over 2,400 homes in Orsk, Orenburg region, were submerged after a dam on the Ural River burst on April 6, leading to massive evacuation efforts to rescue stranded residents.
As rivers overflow in various regions, President Vladimir Putin directed the government to establish a special commission to address the crisis. A state of emergency has been declared in the Kurgan and Tyumen regions since April 8, with temporary shelters set up and evacuation operations underway.
