In a statement made on Friday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitriy Peskov indicated that Russia is open to the possibility of reviving the Black Sea Grain Initiative, a deal that was initially brokered in 2022 by Türkiye and the United Nations.
Speaking at a press briefing in Moscow, Peskov emphasized that President Vladimir Putin is willing to consider agreements based on a comprehensive approach, but stressed that all issues must be discussed as a whole. This suggests that Russia is not opposed to reviving the deal, but may have conditions that need to be met.
The Black Sea Grain Initiative was put into place in July 2022, allowing Ukraine to export grain through the Black Sea despite the ongoing conflict with Russia. The deal was hailed as a major breakthrough, but Moscow did not extend it beyond its initial term due to restrictions on Russian grain exports.
Peskov also touched on Türkiye's potential membership in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), stating that Ankara's obligations to NATO and the European Union must be taken into account when discussing such a move.
