A dramatic scene unfolded on Saturday at a Donald Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where the former President was the target of an assassination attempt just days before he was set to accept the Republican nomination for a third time.
Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene as a barrage of gunfire erupted, sending the crowd into panic. Former President Trump, who claimed to have been shot in the ear, was surrounded by Secret Service agents and quickly escorted to his SUV as he pumped his fist in defiance.
The incident occurred at a farm show in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump was speaking to a crowd of supporters. According to Trump's campaign, he is "fine" after the shooting, which he said pierced the upper part of his right ear.
The FBI has identified the shooter as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Park, Pennsylvania. The agency confirmed that Crooks attacked from an elevated position outside the rally venue and was subsequently shot and killed by Secret Service agents.
Tragically, one attendee was killed and two others were critically injured in the shooting. All three victims were men. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
