Norway has condemned Israel's occupation of Palestinian territory as "crystal clear" and "must come to an end" following the International Court of Justice's (ICJ) advisory opinion. The ICJ ruled that Israel's actions amount to annexation and apartheid, violating international law.
Norway's Foreign Minister, Espen Barth Eide, emphasized that the ICJ's message is "unequivocal" and demanded that Israel comply with the ruling immediately. The ICJ ordered Israel to end its occupation of Palestinian territories "as rapidly as possible" and make full reparations for its "internationally wrongful acts."
The ICJ found multiple breaches of international law by Israel, including activities that amount to apartheid. The court stated that Israel's violations of international law have a direct impact on the legality of its continued presence in the occupied Palestinian territory.
The ruling comes as the Gaza Strip continues to suffer under a crippling blockade, with over 38,900 Palestinians killed and 89,600 injured since Israel launched its war in October. The ICJ has also ordered Israel to halt its operation in Rafah, where over a million Palestinians had sought refuge before it was invaded in May.
Norway joins several other countries in condemning Israel's actions, with many calling for an end to the occupation and an immediate withdrawal from Palestinian territories.
