A recent Quinnipiac University poll has found that former President Donald Trump is leading Vice President Kamala Harris by a narrow 2 percentage points in a hypothetical head-to-head matchup for the 2024 US presidential election. The poll, conducted from July 19-21, shows Trump with 49% support, compared to Harris's 47%.
In a six-candidate field, Harris received 41% support, while Trump garnered 45%. The poll also included other candidates, including John F. Kennedy Jr., Jill Stein, and Chase Oliver, who received significantly lower levels of support.
Quinnipiac University polling analyst Tim Malloy noted that the change in the Democratic nominee has had little impact on the race, as Harris's numbers are similar to those of her predecessor, President Joe Biden.
The findings are consistent with other recent polls, which have also shown a 2-point difference between Harris and Trump. With President Biden's announcement that he will not seek re-election, Harris is now seen as the front-runner to succeed him as the Democratic Party's nominee.
