Ireland has made a historic decision to appoint a Palestinian ambassador, marking the first time such a diplomatic representative will serve in the country. According to a report by Al Jazeera, the announcement was made on Tuesday, confirming the Irish government's agreement to this significant move.
Sources within the government revealed that Jilan Wahba Abdul Majeed, currently leading the Palestinian delegation in Ireland, will take on the role of ambassador.
This development follows Ireland's recognition of the state of Palestine in May of last year, a decision echoed by several other European nations. Additionally, last October, Palestinian officials announced their intention to elevate diplomatic relations with Ireland from a delegation to an embassy level, culminating in the appointment of an ambassador.
