Two Mossad officers were killed and 120 others injured on Monday when a gas cylinder exploded inside a restaurant in the United Arab Emirates' capital Abu Dhabi, police said.
The fire, which damaged several shops and the facades of six buildings, was controlled by the civil defense firefighters, the police added.
Earlier four buildings were evacuated.
Pictures published by local media showed glass debris and some rubble strewn along the sidewalk. The restaurant is located in Khaldiya, a district close to the sea front.
These sources confirmed that the Mossad representative and a number of other officers of the Israeli spy services in the United Arab Emirates were targeted in this operation.
Earlier, Bahrain had welcomed the Israeli Mossad representative in its country and his presence was announced officially. Meanwhile, the UAE had no reservations about announcing the presence of representatives of this intelligence service on its lands, as the presence of Mossad officers in the UAE after normalization is no longer a hidden matter.
It must be noted that Col. Hassan Sayyad Khodaei the highest-profile Iranian official was killed a day ago. Iranian officials vowed to avenge an assassination that they continue to lay at the feet of Israel.
The gruesome death of Khodaei in a car outside his home was also most likely another episode in a series of regional clashes, which have been fought on the waterways of the region, in the skies over Syria, the soil of northern Iraq and on Lebanon’s border, where frequent skirmishes have raised fears of a broader flare-up.
Iranian Foreign Ministry described the killing as a “terrorist” operation, noting that those behind it are linked to “global arrogance”, which is a phrase the Iranian authorities use it to refer to Washington and its allies, led by Israel.
