In a thrilling conclusion to Group E, Romania, Belgium, and Slovakia secured their spots in the Round of 16 of the UEFA EURO 2024 tournament. Despite Ukraine's valiant efforts, they were eliminated due to goal difference.
The decisive match between Romania and Slovakia saw Ondrej Duda give Slovakia an early lead with a headed goal in the 24th minute, assisted by Juraj Kucka. However, Romania leveled the score just 13 minutes later through a penalty kick from Razvan Marin at Frankfurt Arena, sending the game into a 1-1 stalemate.
Meanwhile, Ukraine and Belgium played out a goalless draw at Stuttgart Arena, neither team able to find the back of the net after 90 minutes of play.
As a result, Romania emerged as group winners with four points, while Belgium took second place. Slovakia's four points earned them one of the four best third-placed spots, joining Portugal, Denmark, and Netherlands in the next round.
The winners of Group E will now face off against the winners of Group F in the Round of 16.
