Austria has refuted claims regarding the death of its citizens in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. An unnamed spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry stated, "We have no information of this kind," responding to a report by the Austrian daily Heute, which alleged that 10 out of 28 Austrians fighting in Ukraine had been killed.
The report from Heute cited information allegedly sourced from the Telegram channel of the Russian Defense Ministry. According to Heute, the Russian ministry had published a list purportedly detailing the number of mercenaries involved in the Ukraine war.
Heute quoted figures from the list, which claimed that since the beginning of the conflict on February 24, 2022, a total of 13,387 fighters have participated, with 5,962 reported casualties.
Additionally, the report mentioned that Poland topped the list with 2,960 mercenaries, followed by the US with 1,113, Georgia with 1,042, and Canada with 1,005 participants. The list also included 235 German mercenaries, with 88 reported fatalities.
However, it's important to note that these figures cannot be independently verified.
