According to a report from Reuters, Taiwan's Ministry of Defense revealed on Wednesday the detection of 15 Chinese warships in the vicinity of Taiwan overnight. This occurrence marks an unprecedented event since the commencement of this year.
The Ministry of Defense of Taiwan issued a statement, stating that prior to 6 am on Wednesday, China dispatched 15 warships along with an observation balloon around the perimeter of Taiwan. Additionally, at least 15 other Chinese warplanes were identified in the vicinity.
Official data from Taiwan underscores the significance of this event, as it has not been observed since the outset of the year. Previously, the detection of Chinese ships circling Taiwan typically ranged from four to six within a 24-hour period.
Earlier, Zhou Fenglian, the spokesperson for China's National Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, cautioned against any endeavors by Taiwan's local government to pursue independence with assistance from the United States and acquisition of new weaponry. Such actions, Fenglian warned, would only escalate the risk of military confrontation in the Taiwan Strait.
Notably, the US State Department recently greenlit the potential sale of military telecommunications equipment to Taiwan valued at $75 million.
