India, France and the United Arab Emirates have successfully completed their first trilateral maritime exercise this week, according to the Indian Defense Ministry. The exercise was held on June 7-8 and was considered a milestone in history for trilateral cooperation.
The exercise involved a wide range of operations at sea such as surface warfare, tactical firing and drills for replenishment at sea. Cross embarkation of personnel also took place to facilitate the exchange of best practices.
The drill has strengthened the maritime ties between the navies and enhanced their ability to address traditional and non-traditional threats in the maritime environment. This ensures the safety of mercantile trade and freedom of navigation at high seas in the region.
The Indian Navy’s Tarkash ship, French vessel Surcouf with integral helicopters, French Rafale aircraft and UAE navy maritime patrol aircraft all participated in the exercise.
