In a recent airstrike on the Jabalia refugee camp in northern Gaza, 17 individuals were reported to have been martyred, including nine children. Mahmoud Bassal, spokesperson for the Gaza Civil Defense Agency, confirmed the casualties resulting from the attack by the Zionist regime.
The airstrikes come amid claims by the Israeli forces that Hamas is in the process of restructuring in northern Gaza, a rationale that has led to the encirclement of the Jabalia camp. The ongoing campaign by the Israeli regime, which has been described as genocidal, marks one year since the onset of hostilities in the besieged Gaza Strip. Throughout this time, Western allies of Israel have faced criticism for failing to hold it accountable, allowing for numerous violations of international laws and norms.
Over the past year, the repeated bombings of refugee camps, hospitals, and schools have become a grim reality in Gaza. Despite the brutal war crimes, Israel has not only struggled to attain its strategic objectives in the region but also has reportedly been unable to define a coherent overall strategy.
Since the war began, more than 41,000 people have been martyred, with approximately a quarter of those victims remaining unidentified. Current estimates suggest that one in every 55 residents of Gaza has lost their life during this year-long war, and experts believe the actual death toll may be even higher than the reported number of 10,000.
