On Friday, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) called in the Swedish charge d'affaires in Abu Dhabi to express their dissatisfaction with recent decisions allowing Quran burnings in Sweden.
The UAE's Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the charge d'affaires and presented an official note of protest against the repeated attacks and abuses on copies of the Holy Quran carried out by extremists in Sweden.
The UAE strongly condemned Sweden's government for allowing the continuation of such acts, emphasizing that it demonstrates a disregard for international responsibilities and a lack of respect for social values.
The UAE also emphasized the significance of monitoring and addressing hate speech and expressions of racism that have a negative impact on peace and security. Additionally, the Ministry expressed its rejection of using freedom of expression as a justification for such abhorrent acts.
In the early hours of Thursday morning, a group of Iraqis forcefully entered and set fire to Sweden's Embassy in Baghdad. This act of protest was in response to the burning of a Quran that took place on June 28 by Salwan Momika, an individual of Iraqi origin who currently resides in Sweden.
Sweden's Foreign Ministry strongly condemned the attack on its embassy in Baghdad, describing it as a "serious violation" of the Vienna Convention.
After the incident of storming Stockholm's diplomatic mission, Momika once again committed an act of disrespect towards the Quran. He desecrated a copy of the Quran by stepping on it, along with the Iraqi flag, in front of Iraq's embassy in Sweden.
