In a series of escalating airstrikes on Saturday, Russia and Ukraine targeted each other's energy infrastructure. This ongoing conflict has led to significant consequences for both nations.
In Russia's southern Krasnodar region, a major oil refinery in Slavyansk-on-Kuban partially suspended its operations following a Ukrainian drone attack. Refinery official Eduard Trutnev reported that at least 10 drones struck the facility, causing a massive fire that firefighters and rescue services were still working to extinguish. The complete extent of the damages will only be known after cleanup efforts are completed.
Krasnodar's regional governor, Veniamin Kondratiev, stated that Ukraine launched a massive overnight attack on energy infrastructures and oil refineries in three districts within the region. In response, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that they successfully jammed and shot down 66 drones over Krasnodar.
On the Ukrainian side, Naftogaz, a state-owned energy company, reported that several of its natural gas facilities were damaged due to Russian attacks on Saturday. Although the company did not specify the location, type, or level of damage, they assured that these strikes would not affect services for Ukrainian consumers.
Additionally, Ukrainian energy holding DTEK reported that four thermal power plants suffered severe damages as a result of Russian airstrikes. Ukraine's Energy Minister German Galushchenko confirmed that energy facilities in the Dnipropetrovsk, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Lviv regions were also affected by these attacks.
