The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced Friday that the country will impose sanctions on six US defense firms and several executives in response to the US decision to sell arms to Taiwan.
China condemned the US arms sales as a severe interference in its internal affairs and an infringement on its sovereignty and territorial integrity. Beijing views the move as a violation of the one-China principle and the Three Joint Communiques of the United States and China.
As a result, China will freeze the assets, including movable and immovable property, of companies such as Anduril Corporation, Maritime Tactical Systems, and Pacific Rim Defense. The country will also deny visas and entry into China, Hong Kong, and Macao to senior executives of these companies.
Furthermore, Beijing has prohibited organizations and individuals from engaging in transactions, cooperation, or other activities with sanctioned entities within Chinese territory.
This latest move marks a escalation in tensions between China and the US over Taiwan. China has previously sanctioned other US defense companies, including Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, for similar reasons.
The US has approved a new weapons sale to Taiwan earlier this month, marking the 16th arms sale to Taipei since Joe Biden took office in 2021. The sanctions come amid ongoing concerns over China's increasing military presence around Taiwan and its willingness to use force to reunify the island with the mainland.
