In an interview with the Voice of America, Zabihullah Mujahid, Central spokesman for the Taliban said that since August 2021, Afghan security forces have arrested around 1,600 to 1,700 ISIS militants and killed more than 1,100.
According to al-Quds al-Arabi, the Taliban usually downplays the existence and threat of ISIS armed forces in Afghanistan.
He pointed out that ISIS hideouts were destroyed in different regions of the country, adding that the previous governments in Afghanistan basically supported ISIS forces.
With the change of the system, some of them escaped from prisons. Afghan security forces either killed or arrested or imprisoned ISIS forces.
Earlier, US Central Command (CENTCOM) head Michael Erik Kurilla said that ISIS is now stronger than it was in Afghanistan in the past.
The American general stated that there are at least 6,500 ISIS forces in Afghanistan, including 4,000 near the border with Tajikistan.
But Zabihullah Mujahid rejected the statements of the American General and said that ISIS forces have been reduced in number.
ISIS recently claimed responsibility for an attack in Kabul near the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, during which six people were killed and more than 12 others were injured.
