The foreign ministers of Japan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) met in Tokyo on Monday to exchange views on various bilateral and international issues.
During his visit to Tokyo, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the foreign minister of the UAE, met with his Japanese counterpart Yoshimasa Hayashi on Monday. They discussed various bilateral and international issues. It was Al Nahyan’s first visit to Japan in five years, according to a statement by the Japanese Foreign Ministry.
The statement said that Japan and the UAE have a wide-ranging cooperation that goes beyond the two countries and extends to different locations, such as the Middle East region and third countries. Hayashi stressed the “importance of the rule of law and the principles of the UN Charter.” Al Nahyan said the UAE would like to cooperate with Japan in the UN Security Council and other areas.
The two ministers also talked about cooperation in defense and the situation in different regions, such as Ukraine, the Middle East, and East Asia, including North Korea.
