Most of Americans in favor of stopping US arms supplies to Israel: Poll

According to a recent poll, most Americans favor stopping the transfer of weapons to Israel until the occupying regime's current campaign of killing and devastation is completed. 

More than half of Americans, according to a survey done by the think tank Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR) between February 27 and March 1, want President Joe Biden's government to stop supplying Israel with weapons. 

"A new YouGov poll that the economic policy thinktank commissioned shows that 52% of Americans agree that the US government should halt weapons shipments to Israel until Israel stops its attacks on Gaza," the think tank said in a statement. 

The findings, which were made public on Tuesday, show that 62% of those who supported Biden in 2020 wanted Washington to halt weapon support to Israel until the brutal war comes to an end. 

The statement of the poll by the Washington-based think tank was “The US should stop weapons shipments to Israel until Israel discontinues its attacks on the people of Gaza”, to which only 14 percent of Biden voters disagreed. 

“By contrast, only 30 percent of Trump voters support halting US weapons shipments, while a majority (55 percent) oppose, and another 15 percent say they are unsure,” CEPR added. 

Since October 7, 2023, Israel has murdered around 30,600 Palestinians and injured at least 72,000 others in Gaza. 

That October day, the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, launched Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, which caught the state off guard and led to the ignition of its brutal war machine. 

Due to severe shortages of food, clean water, and medicine, around 85% of Gaza's population has been internally displaced throughout the last five months. 

Washington reportedly sent Israel 21,000 precision-guided missiles in October, according to media sources. Thousands of 155mm artillery shells, thousands of bunker-buster munitions, and 200 kamikaze drones are among the other weaponry and munitions kinds. 

Despite causing a massive death toll and suffering fatalities, the Israeli military has failed to achieve the set goals such as “destroying” Hamas, finding the captives the Gaza-based resistance movement is holding, and bringing about forced displacement of the Palestinian territory’s population to neighboring Egypt.
