Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan today called on the people of Pakistan to hold large-scale demonstrations in all cities tomorrow to protest foreign interference in the country’s internal affairs.
“The removal of me was an attempt to change the government with the support of the United States, and it shows the obvious involvement of the United States in our internal affairs,” he told Al Jazeera.
The US Chargé d’Affaires was summoned to the Pakistani Foreign Ministry to inform him of Islamabad’s strong protest against interference in its internal affairs. However, White House communications director Kate Badingfield told reporters at a news conference in response to a question about US intervention in ousting Imran Khan: “These allegations are completely false.”
The tension erupted when Imran Khan said in a live televised address to the Pakistani people last Thursday night that the no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister in the Pakistani parliament was the result of outside interference.
“Early in March 2022, I received a letter from the Pakistani ambassador to the United States outlining the opposition coalition’s plan to vote no confidence in me, in which Pakistan’s independent foreign policy was challenged and threatened,” he said. “If there is a parliamentary vote of confidence in me, there will be bad consequences for Pakistan.”
Imran Khan added: “In front of the people, I say that I have received a threatening letter from the United States. “The United States has threatened to overthrow my government because I opposed the request for a military base on our soil.”
He said he would never resign, adding that he would continue “this game” until the end, waiting for a parliamentary vote, and would never bow to anyone and not allow the Pakistani people to surrender to anyone.
Following these remarks, many people in different cities of Pakistan took to the streets at the invitation of the Muslim Unity Council after Friday prayers and chanted slogans against the United States and in support of Imran Khan.
They also set fire to the American flag. The Pakistani Imami Students Organization also called on its supporters to take to the streets today to chant slogans against the United States and its interference in Pakistan’s internal affairs.
Pakistani Intelligence Minister Fouad Chaudhry also said that Imran Khan had submitted a letter to the Pakistan National Security Council as evidence of a foreign plot against his government. According to Chaudhry, former Pakistani Prime Minister-in-exile Nawaz Sharif is plotting against Imran Khan’s government through a vote of no confidence in him with the cooperation of foreign parties.
The second session of the no-confidence motion against the Prime Minister of Pakistan was held on Thursday in the presence of representatives of the Joint Opposition Front in the National Assembly. Minister to be held. Observers, however, say the Pakistani prime minister is relieved to receive a vote of confidence from parliament again.
