Early on Sunday, at least six Palestinians lost their lives as Israel targeted a civilian gathering in the Jenin Governorate in the northern occupied West Bank. The Palestinian Health Ministry conveyed the tragic news, stating, "Six Palestinians were martyred when the Israeli occupation bombed a gathering of citizens in Jenin."
Eyewitnesses reported that the Israeli army bombed Martyrs' Square, a public gathering area near Jenin city, resulting in numerous casualties. The scene was marked by human remains scattered, and the injured were rushed to Jenin Governmental Hospital.
As dawn broke, an Israeli force entered Jenin, including its refugee camp and various neighborhoods, with witnesses reporting gunfire and explosions. While a helicopter bombed the camp, there were no reported casualties. Additionally, activists mentioned the detonation of a homemade device inside an Israeli military vehicle, causing damage.
The West Bank has been tense since hostilities erupted in Gaza on October 7, escalating the number of Palestinian casualties in the West Bank and East Jerusalem to at least 325, as per Health Ministry data.
Simultaneously, Israeli attacks in the West Bank intensified alongside the devastating conflict in Gaza, where the toll stands at least 22,722 deaths and around 58,166 injuries, predominantly affecting women and children. The widespread infrastructure damage and the resulting humanitarian crisis have been deemed unprecedented, both by Gaza authorities and the UN.
