The Yemen war has entered its 9th year, while the Saudi Arabia and its allies led to many human disasters in this country for the past 8 years, without achieving any of their goals in Yemen.
March 25, 2015 is a date that will never be erased from the minds of Yemenis. On this day, Saudi Arabia started its war against the innocent people of Yemen by forming a coalition called “Operation Decisive Storm” and claimed that the main goal of the military intervention in Yemen is to restore legitimacy to this country!
What Saudi Arabia had been aiming for?
While one of the most important goals of the Saudis and their allies was to destroy the resistance in Yemen or at least disarm it. Another goal that the Saudis pursued from the military aggression in Yemen was to return “Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi” to power. Meanwhile, the looting of oil and gas resources in southern Yemen can also be called as another goal of Saudi Arabia for military aggression against Yemen.
The Saudis predicted that they would be able to achieve all the predetermined goals in the Yemen war in a very short span of time. However, the resistance of the Yemeni people on the one hand and the stand of the Houthis as well as the Yemeni army and popular committees against the aggressors on the other hand collapsed all the aims of Riyadh.
Not only did the Saudis fail to achieve their predetermined goals in 8 years, but they also got caught in the swamp of the Yemeni war and are now grasping at any string to get out of the costly war in Yemen at the lowest cost.
During the last 8 years, they did not succeed in returning their puppet “Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi” to power, nor did they manage to disarm the resistance in Yemen.
Buying arms and budget deficit
Since March 2015, Saudi Arabia has bought more than 30 billion dollars of weapons from the United States. In addition, during this period, the Saudis have spent more than 35 billion dollars to buy weapons from other American parties. In this way, Saudi Arabia has purchased a total of more than 63 billion dollars of weapons from American sources, without achieving anything for Riyadh, instead causing the Kingdom to face a widespread budget deficit.
The latest reports indicate that the war in Yemen has cost the Saudis more than 110 billion dollars since 2015, and the continuation of this war imposes a huge cost on the Saudi authorities on a monthly basis. The cost that the Saudi people pay for by tolerating economic austerity policies.
The Saudis have long realized that they won’t achieve anything as a result of the war in Yemen. Since the Saudi political authorities and military commanders reached such a conclusion, they have put the massacre of Yemeni civilians on their agenda more than ever.
Humanitarian Crisis
In this connection, the International Red Cross warned about the worsening of the humanitarian situation in Yemen and emphasized: “Two thirds of people in Yemen have almost nothing to eat. That's over 20 million people.”
According to the latest statistics announced by Yemen’s Ministry of Health, as a result of 8 years of continuous military aggression in Yemen, more than 50 thousand civilians were killed and injured.
This is while during the mentioned period, many of Yemen's infrastructures, including hospitals, roads, bridges, mosques, schools, etc., were completely destroyed. In the meantime, the international community did not adopt a policy other than silence in front of all the crimes committed by Saudi Arabia and its allies.
What Saudi did and What did it achieve?
In addition, the confiscation of ships carrying Yemeni fuel and preventing them from entering Yemeni ports has caused a widespread humanitarian crisis in this country. The lack of fuel in Yemen has practically closed many health and treatment centers in this country. This issue has threatened the lives of thousands of Yemenis on a daily basis. This is while the three-way blockade of Yemen has resulted in a severe shortage of food and medicine in this country and has created an unprecedented humanitarian disaster.
All these crimes have been committed by Saudi Arabia and its allies in Yemen for 8 years, without even one of the goals of the aggressors being achieved in Yemen.
