Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu delivered a stark assessment on Wednesday, stating that based on recent statistics, Russian air defense systems are likely to swiftly neutralize all F-16 fighter jets pledged to Ukraine, estimating this process to unfold within approximately 20 days.
During a meeting in Moscow, Shoygu revealed that in air engagements during October, a total of 1,400 air targets, including 37 Ukrainian aircraft and 6 ATACMS missiles, were successfully intercepted by Russian air defenses.
Shoygu emphasized the significance of this data by highlighting that the 37 Ukrainian aircraft shot down in the past month exceeded the number of F-16s slated for transfer to Ukraine. In his estimation, with the efficiency of their air defense systems, this could be accomplished within about 20 days.
He also commented on Ukraine's situation, noting that the country's resources were dwindling, its troops faced demoralization, and despite the influx of new NATO weaponry, its armed forces were in retreat.
In a related context, in August, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had disclosed that, with U.S. consent, multiple Western nations had agreed to provide F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine during his visits to Denmark and the Netherlands.
