Russian President Vladimir Putin cautioned against civilian casualties in the event of an Israeli ground operation in the Gaza Strip. Addressing the gathering of Commonwealth of Independents States (CIS) leaders in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, Putin emphasized that employing heavy military equipment in residential areas poses significant risks for all parties involved.
Putin laid blame on the United States for the current escalation in the Palestine-Israel conflict, asserting that Washington's attempt to address the political issue of establishing a Palestinian State through economic measures has backfired. According to the Russian leader, the ongoing escalation is a direct outcome of the failed US policy in the Middle East. Putin accused the US of attempting to monopolize the Middle East settlement without considering compromises or the fundamental interests of the Palestinian people.
Highlighting the obstruction of the Middle East Quartet's work by Washington, Putin pointed out that the group, comprising Russia, the EU, UN, and the US, was established to address issues related to the Palestine-Israel conflict. He asserted that these actions by the US gradually led to the current state of aggravation, with further discussions on the matter planned for an informal meeting.
Reiterating Russia's willingness to serve as a mediator in the Palestine-Israel settlement, Putin emphasized the importance of addressing the root causes of the conflict and finding a comprehensive resolution.
